Polynucleotides vs Profhilo – Which Is Right for You?

by | May 30, 2025 | Ageing, Skin

Heard about these treatments but not sure what they do? You’re not alone. Polynucleotides vs Profhilo, which should you choose? I offer both of these skin boosters at my Medispa in Wigan, and it’s a question I get asked a lot. So I’ve written this guide to help you understand what each does, where they shine, how many sessions you’ll need, and other important information – so you can choose the right first step for your skin, or see when a combination makes sense.

What are Polynucleotides?

Polynucleotides are next-generation skin repair boosters. Rather than adding volume, they work at a cellular level to support repair processes and improve overall skin quality—especially effective around the eyes where skin is thin and sensitive. Expect softer fine lines, better texture and a fresher, more resilient look over a course of treatments.

Great for:

  • Under-eye fine lines, crepiness, dark circles

  • Textural concerns (roughness, mild scarring)

  • General “tired” skin that needs repair rather than volume

What is Profhilo?

Profhilo is the original hyaluronic acid skin booster—often called the injectable moisturiser. It spreads beneath the skin to deliver deep, dewy hydration and stimulates collagen and elastin for a gentle firming effect. Think overall glow and improved elasticity, especially in the lower face and neck.

Great for:

  • Dull, dehydrated skin lacking bounce

  • Mild laxity in the lower face and neck

  • Fast radiance before an event (with time for session spacing)

Polynucleotides vs Profhilo : where each shines

  • Eyes/tear trough/crepiness: Polynucleotides

  • Overall face glow & bounce: Profhilo

  • Neck texture & fine lines: Profhilo (and Polynucleotides if you need more repair)

  • Texture/scarring focus: Polynucleotides (course)

  • Dehydration/dullness: Profhilo (fast glow)

Treatment plans, downtime & results timeline

Polynucleotides

  • Plan: Usually 3–4 sessions, every 2–4 weeks

  • Procedure time: 30–45 mins

  • Downtime: Minimal (redness/swelling approx 24 hours)

  • Results: Freshness after the first session; quality builds over 4–8 weeks

  • Maintenance: As advised (often 6–12 months, or targeted top-ups)

Profhilo

  • Plan: 2 sessions, 4 weeks apart; maintenance every 6–9 months

  • Procedure time: 30 mins

  • Downtime: Small injection bumps settle within 12–24 hours

  • Results: Glow in 3–7 days; firmness continues to improve over 4–6 weeks

Can you combine them?

Often, yes. A popular pathway is:

  1. Repair phase: Polynucleotides (3–4 sessions) to strengthen and refine skin quality—especially eyes/texture.

  2. Hydration/elasticity phase: Profhilo to boost glow and bounce across face/neck.
Your practitioner will map a plan that suits your skin, diary and goals.

Safety & suitability

  • Both treatments are designed for natural-looking improvements without altering your facial shape.

  • Expect minimal downtime. You may see small bumps (Profhilo) or mild redness/swelling that settle quickly.

  • We’ll review your health history in consultation to confirm suitability and timing.

Polynucleotides vs Profhilo FAQs

Are these the same as filler or Botox?
No. Fillers add volume; Botox relaxes muscles. Polynucleotides and Profhilo improve skin quality—hydration, texture, elasticity—without changing your facial shape.

Which lasts longer?
They last in different ways. Polynucleotides act like a skin reset — results build over a short course. Many clients get a top up around 6–12 months later (tailored to your skin). Profhilo gives a quick glow and bounce, with firmness improving over 4–6 weeks. Most people top up every 6–9 months to keep that dewy look. Longevity always varies with age, skin quality and lifestyle, so we’ll guide you at consultation.

Can I treat just the under-eye area?
Yes—Polynucleotides are especially suited to the delicate eye area for crepiness, fine lines and dark circles.

What if I’m new to injectables?
Many first-timers start with Profhilo for hydration and glow, then consider Polynucleotides if they want extra repair—especially around the eyes.

How do I choose?
Book a consultation. Any clinic you attend should assess your skin and recommend the best route (or a staged plan) for your goals.
